Champlain Towers Steel Could have easily been retrofitted for increased punching shear critical
Retrofitting steel would be easy, and most work would be done at the fabricator's shop.
The connections would be done in the field.
This of course, can work for Towers East and Tower North.
The ''transfer brackets'' to columns would be installed first and then the fabrication shop would do the field measurements and present the steel as it was completed... allowing for placement as the shop is still fabricating the ''framework"...
It would be load factored to 1.40% minimum ; which would allow for adding cross bracing if some were required.
The brackets would be of suck a design to allow for '''three'' cross members if that was desirable.
The car parking area might even get steel decking pushed to the underside to ''remove'' deflection of car traffic.
The entire system would be designed WITH the consideration that all current critical shear areas are in failure mode...
No NO NO credit will be given for any ''head steel"... the columns could also be carbon fiber jacketed...
Finally, a monitoring system would be installed and stamped into all steel will be it's load rating and it's location to be placed; further note on steel will be... this steel has a limited load rating is primary to structure and no future loads should be added to exceed "X''...
You would bolt the beams to the deck to create a composite system (top flange) would create a Nelson stud system if you will...
