In 2013, they caused 301,000 deaths, down from 327,000 in 1990. Princess Henrietta of England described the first perforated peptic ulcer in 1670. H. Barry Marshall and Robin Warren discovered that H.Pylori causes peptic ulcers in the late twentieth century, for which they were awarded the Nobel Prize in 2005.
