Relaxing Sleep Music or Lullabies: Apply Pavlov's Classical Conditioning Theory to help Insomnia

Today we are going to discuss a fundamental behavioral pattern of sleeping.

Have you ever slept on a rainy day? Did you notice people falling asleep more deeply when it rains?

According to Pavlov's Theory of Classical Conditioning, you should expect quick sleep if you play the drizzling sounds at bedtime. Ivan Petrovich Pavlov was a Russian physiologist and scholar of Natural Sciences known primarily for his work in classical conditioning. Ivan Pavlov demonstrated that the specific sound or tone could yield an animal salivate instead of any food. It happened because that particular person or animal was conditioned before with that specific sound.

There's a history that many parents used lullabies for centuries. Because singing cradle-songs into your little one's bedtime routine may result in better sleep for babies. Let's hear one of those.

Rock-a-bye baby
On the tree-tops,
When the wind blows
The cradle will rock.
When the bough breaks
The cradle will fall,
And down will come, baby
Cradle and all.

Rock-a-bye, baby, in the treetop
When the wind blows the cradle will rock
When the bough breaks the cradle will fall
And down will come baby, cradle and all
Baby is drowsing, cosy and fair
Mother sits near, in her rocking chair
Forward and back the cradle she swings
And though baby sleeps, he hears what she sings
From the high rooftops down to the sea
No one's as dear as baby to me
Wee little fingers, eyes wide and bright
Now sound asleep until morning light

If those songs could work for infants, they should work for adults. The possible rationale may be that the impression on the brain in childhood would persist over adulthood. So, people may enjoy soothing sounds before sleep. However, tastes may change with age. For example, somebody likes rain sounds or ocean sounds instead of lullabies.

Many people suffer from painful nights due to insomnia—very little sleep or no sleep at all.

Sleeplessness may be the grounds of many physical and mental problems, such as,

Depression
Diabetes
Obesity
Anxiety
Mental Illness
Hypertension
Stroke
High Mortality
and Morbidity.

Anxiety drives insomnia which again leads to more stress. It is a vicious cycle.

Insomnia may be due to Hormonal Imbalance, for example, due to menopause.

So, consult your Doctor for any Medical Cause, such as Sleep Apnea.

And treat all of the Medical Causes.

Correct the predisposing factors, like stress and anxiety.

Modifications in lifestyles, sleeping, and eating habits may improve symptoms.

Acquire an optimistic mindset towards life.

Realize how to handle adverse situations properly.

Besides, many people use Sound Therapy.

Sound is a kind of energy.

Energy has effects on the body and mind.

Six high-quality soothing sounds may pacify your respite.

White noise, thunder sounds, ocean, rain, summer night, and brook sounds are available on specific devices.

However, consider the noise levels to keep at safe levels.

Because if you play loud or use inappropriately, these sounds may be harmful to infants, children, and patients with hearing problems.

Yet, many people support relaxing sounds to fall asleep quickly.

What do you think? Do you love playing sounds before shuteye? Would you please comment on your experience below?
