She was only eight weeks
But already stood out
She learned very quick
I never needed to shout
She loved taking hikes
And she loved running free
She was practically human

She had skills with a ball
She could swim like a duck
She was a positive force
Who always showed pluck
She had humor and wit
Loved every child she’d see
She ran like gazelles
But was always a doggy to me

Oh, she protected the house
She made friends everywhere
She would swim every day
Oh, she would sleep with her cats
She would horde tennis balls
She was funny that way

Her eyebrows expressed
In a comical fashion
She would perk up her ears
With a puppy-like passion
She gave us her all
Was the best she could be
She’s been such a joy
And she’s always Sweet Abby to me

She was so full of joy
She was patient and kind
Oh, she would rarely bark out
Even more rarely growl
She had such a sweet mind

She could barely get up
She was so very frail
She could bring you to tears
with a wag of her tail
She never complained
Even in pain you could see
The last moments were / just a shadow of her
But she’ll always be Abby to me
