How to Search for NAICS Codes for Your Business

When you file your annual federal tax return for your business, you need to enter a principal business activity code, which identifies your industry and type of business.

The principal activity codes are based upon the NAICS code system. Not all NAICS codes are available as principal business activity codes, so you should carefully review the options to select the closest selection.

Principal business activity codes can be found in the IRS form instructions for each IRS business tax return.

For example, the following industries can use the following principal business activity codes:

Law Firm: 541110
Uber Driver: 485310
Truck Driver: 484110
Consulting: 541990
Rental Real Estate: 531110
