‘We Were Created Divine,’ Says Pastor After Watching Shen Yun
Orange County Supervisor Lisa Bartlett welcomed Shen Yun back to Costa Mesa, California. The proclamation was presented by Christian Abueg, her policy adviser, on Jan. 1, 2022.
“I can see why it’s a very applauded performance: because of the amount of work and dedication that goes into it, as well as the messages that it sends as well,” said Abueg. “Showcasing the five millennia of traditional Chinese culture is super important. And I think that Shen Yun definitely does that.”
Through dance and music, Shen Yun’s mission to revive a nearly-lost culture inspires audience members.
“My favorite was the ... plum blossoms with all of the fans and just the sleeves in one of the dancing,” said Valerie Bath, CEO of Global Business Culture. “I mean, it was just the choreography, costumes, and the bright screens behind the performers that led you into another dimension, was just fabulous.”
“Some of the instruments were ancient and some were modern, and I thought the way they blended ... it was just a perfect, the perfect tone for what they were trying to do. But I loved it. It's obviously world-class musicians, that was clear,” said Kevin Ryan, founder of Ryan Guitars.
Some were moved by the divinely-inspired culture on stage, something rarely seen in performances on stage today.
“We were created divine, we are in God's image, and everything in this life is trying to take us back to that pure form,” said Traci Minor, a pastor and violinist. “We're all searching for that. We just get caught up in things that don't really take us there, thinking that it's going to take us there, but it doesn't. But if we can keep our focus on that, that divine, and realize that we have a spiritual component, we're not just heads on a stick. We can realize there's a spiritual component to life, that we can find that purity with God, with the Creator. That's the whole intent. I think it's to return to that.”
“I think it's a theme that reverberates in a lot of cultures,” Ryan said. “The human hope for something divine is, you know, it's in our DNA.”
Shen Yun will perform in Escondido from Jan. 13 to 17.
