We can understand YHVH Elohim by looking at what He created to be Their Image bearers -- human male and females. In Genesis we see that there is a formula to life. "Then YHVH Elohim formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living soul." Gen. 2:7. We see that it is BODY + BREATH = SPIRIT / SOUL.

YHVH Himself says He has a SOUL:

"I will make my dwelling among you, and MY SOUL shall not abhor you. " Lev. 26:11

"I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with ALL MY HEART and ALL MY SOUL." Jer. 32:41
