Christians should live their lives in full submission to the commands of Jesus Christ. Why? Because we, those of us who call ourselves Christian, call Him Lord. And if He is our Lord, we certainly should be living our life in submission to whatever He commands. Sadly, what should be self-evident for someone who proclaims Christ as Lord, is not so readily practiced.

In this lesson we take a look at Hebrews Chapter 8. This chapter stresses the importance, and the greatness, of the new covenant in Christ. We are the inheritors of a great covenant that God has made possible through the sacrifice of His son Yeshua (Jesus.)

This new covenant is available to you today and your posterity tomorrow. This new covenant much greater than the covenant that the Israelites received coming out of Egypt. That covenant, gave the commandments for righteous living. Sure, the Israelites may have come out of Egypt but Egypt was not taken out of the heart of the Israelites. They constantly longed to go back to a life of slavery in Egypt rather than a life of godliness in the promised land.

This new covenant still contains the same commands for righteous living, however, it has the additional benefit of changing the heart; it removes Egypt (symbolically sin) from our hearts. Those who truly desire to follow Christ also desire to keep His commands and live a righteous life.

The new covenant not only provides forgiveness of sins but it also give the gift of the Holy Spirit as well as eternal life to all who have faith in Jesus.

Peace and Joy,
