Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing In Heavy Traffic

This video reminds me yet again of the story of how the Blackhawk was chosen for production. Sikorsky was in competition with another manufacturer for the Army's new helicopter. It was decided that both companies make a working prototype and fly them fully loaded with troops to specification. However, when the Sikorsky company's prototype was flying at night, it had a minor malfunction and the pilots were landing at what they thought was a corn field. It turned out to be trees. The helicopter crash-landed in the forest pretty hard. When Sikorsky's representatives got there, they were expecting carnage, but they found the entire helicopter intact and the crew and soldiers completely unharmed. All they had to do was replace the rotors and fly it out of there. It was a given that Sikorsky was the winner.
