Christians are called to serve

Christians are called to serve.
In the bible the word servant is used interchangeably with the word minister and both words are used to mean serving or ministering to God.
However, they’re also used to mean serving or ministering to other people, but even then it still means serving God. In Matthew 25, Jesus said, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me”.
If you’re serious about serving the Lord by serving people Jesus also said, “Whoever wants to be first, must be your slave”.
In John 15 Jesus said something that can seem a bit confusing. He said, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father I have made known to you”.
With those words, I believe Jesus was simply making a distinction between the Old Covenant relationship with God and the New Covenant relationship with God. He wasn’t eliminating the call to serve.
A true friend is always there for the Lord. In John 12 Jesus said, “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be”.
Serving takes different forms. In Romans 1, Paul wrote, “God, who I serve in my spirit, is my witness how I constantly remember you in my prayers at all times”.
So, when you’re praying for people, you’re serving God.
When you’re exercising the gifts of the Spirit, you’re serving God. Peter wrote, “Each of you should use whatever gift you’ve received to serve others”.
The Lord teaches that if we want to be good servants, we need to guide people away from becoming legalistic. In 1Timothy Paul wrote, “Everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it’s received with thanksgiving, because it’s consecrated by the word of God and prayer. If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus”.
So, grow in grace. Romans 7 tells us that we’ve been released from the law so that we can serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.
