The song "You Can't Make a Heart Love Somebody" was written by Johnny MacRae and Steve Clark and recorded by George Strait, an American country music performer. It was released as the second single from his album Lead On in December 1994.

The song tells the story of a guy who proposes to his girlfriend, but she declines. The lady sadly confesses that, despite her best efforts, she is just not in love with her partner ("You can lead a heart to love, but you can't make it fall"), in a play on the aphorism "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink."
