If You Believe It - Dave Stiles

I wrote this song on 12/19/21 to submit to SongFight.org. And believe it or not, the lyrics actually started off as very dystopian with a "we're all fools" kind of theme. And for some reason, it quickly pivoted to become this amazingly happy, nostalgic and optimistic toe tapper. This was one of those situations where I felt like more of a conduit than an artist. It just flowed through me. I will admit that musically, I did intentionally try to recreate the catchiness of all the popular upbeat Christmas songs I've ever loved. And somehow, I think I got pretty close.

"If you believe it" Lyrics:

Now, the kids went to bed
and and said their prayers
So what’s that noise
I hear upstairs?
I went up to check
And what did I see?
Two little eyes,
staring back at me

I said it’s Christmas Eve
and you should be sleepin’
Not sneaking around
spyin’ and peeping’
So close you eyes
and make a wish
And soon you’ll be waking up
to all your gifts.

You can’t rush the magic
It’ll come in time
If you believe it
You’ll have a magical Christmas time

Years ago
When I was a boy
The wish book would come
And I’d pick out a toy
I’d wait and wait
and anticipate
For the advent calendar
To hit that date

It was always exciting
On Christmas Eve
Santa’d come and visit
My sister and me
He looked in our eyes
And said these words
The sweetest sound we ever heard

(Chorus)

Do you feel the magic?
Do you feel the magic?
Do you feel the magic?
Do you feel the magic?

For the rest of my life
I’ll never forget
Those Christmas times
Were the best it gets
Matchbox racetracks
and H.O. trains
A brand new bike
And some video games
It wasn’t all about the presents
There was lots of love
For mom and dad
And the lord above
And when I think about it
I get tears in my eyes
Wait, what’s that?
Streaking ‘cross the sky

(Chorus X2)
