RT International spoke with 21WIRE editor Patrick Henningsen last week after the German-language channel RT Deutsch was taken off the air on its first day of broadcasting - after EU and German media regulators accused it of not have the correct licence needed to operate in the country. As a result, RT DE was banned from Eutelsat (ETL.PA) despite the fact that the RT DE, a subsidiary of RT News International, was broadcasting legally from Moscow via Serbia through a treaty called the European Convention on Transfrontier Television. Henningsen says this latest affront to media freedom is a geopolitical move being pushed via Washington and NATO in order to deny Russia access to European viewers amid increased political hostilities by the West against Russia in order to derail the Nordstream2 gas pipeline and ratchet-up military tension around Ukraine.
