Six Tips to maintain brain health

1. Exercise
Studies show that people who exercise on a regular basis have a healthier brain.
As we age, our brains shrink in size and cognitive function becomes more difficult.
Exercise can help to increase the volume of the brain, support new neuron growth,
and maintain healthy blood vessels in the brain.

2. Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol
Smoking and drinking alcohol can have significant negative effects on your brain.
Smoking has been linked to lower IQs, making it difficult to learn new things.
Alcohol consumption has been shown to cause damage to the hippocampus,
which is responsible for memory formation and storage.

3. Learn new things
Recent studies show that only 7% of people in their 20s and 30s know what an enzyme is
and nearly 75% of people in their 80s and 90s don't know. Maintaining a healthy brain
also includes knowing about an enzyme, which is an organic molecule that speeds up
a chemical reaction by lowering its activation energy.

4. Socialize with family and friends
Socializing with family and friends is a great way to maintain your brain health.
In fact, studies show that people with strong relationships have a decreased risk for
Alzheimer's and dementia. A study from Brigham Young University found that social
interaction is the single most important factor in maintaining healthy brain cells.
Socializing also helps us feel less lonely, lowers our stress levels and eases depression.

5. Maintain a healthy diet
A healthy diet is important for the health of your body and your brain. When your body goes without food it turns to fat and sugar for fuel and uses up all of its glucose. This leads to a decrease in brain activity and an increase in hunger. A low blood sugar state,
or hypoglycemia can lead to irritability, anxiety, panic attacks, headaches and fatigue.

6. Sleep
Sleeping is crucial for maintaining the healthy functioning of the brain. The brain needs
time to switch off and recharge, but many people struggle to sleep. Lack of sleep can lead
to chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and depression.
