Today we're talking about purchasing ammunition online Pease stick around to the end, we have a pro tip for you... To kick things off we have to start with "what is ammunition," Emily? Keep in mind you are always going to have two definitions to contend with the federal definition and whatever you state says ammunition is... First lets talk about the federal definition [Text on screen] The federal definition actually classifies ammunition components as ammunition itself and not just the completed round Yes its important to not include shotgun components think shotgun shells, wads, yea... So this excludes So we are talking about conventional centerfire or rimfire cartridges essentially not shotguns And then federal law... only absolutely criminalizes one type of ammunition. Richard What is that? Yes, when we are talking about what is illegal under federal law, we are really talking about armor piercing handgun ammunition the federal definition of armor piercing handgun ammunition is found in 18 U.S.C. § 921 [Text on screen] and that does not mean that your .223 or 5.56 ammo is armor piercing just because it sounds like it might fall into that category even though, we all know I can take my .223 and I can put it in my AR or my AR-pistol The federal government does not interpret that as intended for use in handguns because it is dual purpose essentially yes, exactly right i don't y'all to sweat it, too much because what it comes down to at the end of the day If you have a reputable seller that you can buy it commercially online, and they will ship it to your state then the ammunition is probably going to be legal but there is something that we have to mention, and that is, state prohibition on ammunition and they come in a lot of different forma Whether it is large caliber ammunition think greater than .50 caliber exploding ammunition dragons breath dragons breath, yea, think flame throwing ammunition flechette ammunition, think shotgun shells that has wires or darts in it even, hollow-point ammunition; even though we know this is the best ammunition to use for self-defense What do you have to say about hollow-point ammunition? Yeah! I mean, I know we have viewers who come from states like New Jersey where this is a concern. It's something that gets Texans in trouble that we talk to all the time because they call us and they have taken a handgun into New Jersey because they dont realize that is is illegal. not only that but they have it loaded with their self-defense rounds, and i think, each hollow-point round is its own felony Yea It is a scary proposition, particularly in those very restrictive states, very far to the West, very far to the North East keep in mind, just like Richard said earlier. If the seller is a reputable seller so long as.... you know, you're not buying off of Craigslist, right? if you are actually buying from a real seller on the internet and they will sell it to you after you put in your shipping information they're not going to get themselves sued. you are likely 100% fine, dont worry too much and that brings us to our pro-tip of the day How do you know you are getting a good deal Ill tell you, we're not sponsored, here, and this isn't a paid plug or anything like that but i like ammoseek.com it is an aggregation of online sellers for ammunition and you can pick the manufacturer, the grain all the specifications about the cartridge the caliber and it will list out a price per round and i think that it is just a really good deal...
