You may have read the articles that the Manitoba government has posted about their efforts to “contain” CWD, but those articles are seriously down played.
Keep in mind that these events have stemmed from one SINGLE positive CWD case out of 10 000 tests ever done from a MULE DEER that Manitoba has been protecting up until now.
The case was found in October when they then banned hunting. Shortly after they implemented that any land owners & their family members in the CWD containment area may shoot 3 whitetail and 3 mule deer as long as they take them to be tested.
Over the last few weeks they have been very quietly seeking land owner permission which I feel the land owners had not been able to make informed decisions as they downplayed their next steps.
I witnessed them herding deer off grandpas (which they did not have permission on) with the chopper onto land they could shoot them on. Later they called to say they are on our land looking for and retrieving wounded deer when they have no permission.
We got calls from neighbours with photos of the choppers herding deer off of their land also, which they DID NOT give permission.
The testing depo received Over 100 animals. None of these test results have came back yet. So why are they killing everything before getting the first round of test results back?
Since yesterday they have been slaughtering white tails and mule deer out of helicopter. Taking unethical shots such as the one in my videos.
Many shots were fired and no effort was put into searching for wounded deer in certain areas, not too mention gut shots.
My dad and I spent the majority of the day watching this unfold and trying to advocate for the deer population and the hunters in this area.
It’s hard for me to put all of the information into this one post for everyone to understand, but we need support from other hunters to get this to stop.
Even if you don’t hunt in this specific area, what do you think will happen if they find a positive case on the North, south side, or across the 83 highway?
There is going to be no deer to hunt in our area. Their action plan was “complete depopulation in containment area for minimum of 5 years”.

We contacted the Manitoba Wildlife Federation and they stated that they are in FAVOUR of this.
If enough of us put pressure on then maybe we can change something.
