Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery is the largest cemetery in Canada NDG is second only to the Mount Royal park in terms of size. The first land acquisitions for the site took place in 1852 at a time when livestock was still allowed to graze on the church's property. The massive cemetery would eventually become an integral part of the city's life being both a popular tourist site and a well-known landmark. With an area of more than 200 hectares it contains over 3 million graves and 15 kilometres of lanes and roads.
