Entering the seventh year of his star-crossed tenure at Michigan, the black mark on Jim Harbaugh’s coaching record appeared written in indelible ink: Losing to Ohio State had become habit and his greatest stigma. His five failures in “The Game” contributed to the program’s downturn, dented his reputation and left him with little recourse beyond signing a reduced contract extension this past January.

But Harbaugh, nicknamed “Captain Comeback” as a player, launched one of the most unlikely turnarounds this season. A team many predicted to finish near .500 instead reached double-digit victories.
