An example of a seam on a nerve. The purpose of such a suture is to connect the edges as smoothly as possible with the least trauma to the nerve itself and the tissues surrounding it. For the first time such seams were performed in 1863 by Nelaton and in 1864 by Lange.

P.S. I know from myself that when you see a nerve for the first time, you are surprised that it is of this size. They are really quite tangible, as the sciatic nerve of an adult is 1.1 cm in diameter (thicker than an average ballpoint pen. I just measured it)
