Fruiting Saguaros - Picacho Peak State Park

We experienced the rugged beauty of the Sonoran Desert during a short lunch break and hike on our 740 miles travel day from Las Cruces NM to Ontario CA. Picacho Peak State Park is located between Tucson and Phoenix along Interstate 10. There are hiking trails and various amenities.

We arrived in the Sonoran Desert at a time the saguaros were producing fruit. The park ranger explained the saguaros bloom in early April, but by May the blossoms fall off and fruit appear at the tops of these magnificent succulents.
