Shyboy-David Lee Roth DRUM COVER BY RYAN BROWN

I had to shed this classic oldie from the mid 1980’s for a cover band I started playing with recently called Red Leather. Everybody in this group is all about covering more tunes that bands don’t normally cover. That makes playing covers much more tolerable for sure! Someone mentioned doing “Shyboy” or “Yankee Rose” from this album and I was totally stoked to do either one. But Shyboy was the bigger challenge for everybody to put together including myself. So I shed this one for a couple of days and it turned out to be way more difficult than I remember to do all of the “chops” hand/foot combinations that Gregg Bissonette does in the opening and the outro/stinger parts of Shyboy. I guess I don’t play combinations like this anymore and my hands and feet forgot the muscle memory and how to execute it effectively. So Mr. Gregg Bissonette, if you see this, please forgive me if I butchered what you played originally!🙏🤦‍♂️….which the drumming on this whole album is genius and should be a milestone of any drummer’s listening archive.
So there it is….now the pressure is on for the other fellas in Red Leather. I learned my part enough that I could at least contribute to a successful train wreck in our first attempt of playing this at our next gig!🤣🤣🤘🤘

Pulled out an older Pearl snare drum that has a distinct signature sound similar to what Gregg Bissonette played but from what I can tell in most of the pictures and videos I’ve seen of Gregg playing from this time period, his snare drum was probably some crazy custom size like 14x20 or something like that. But the snare sound he has on some of these DLR tunes is very unique (I exaggerate the depth slightly but still ,pretty crazy depth🤣)
