General Bipin Rawat (PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, ADC) (16 March 1958 – 8 December 2021) was India's first Chief of Defense Staff or Chief of Defense Staff (CDS); He assumed the post of Chief of Defense Staff on 1 January 2020. Prior to this he was the Chief of Indian Army. Rawat served as the Chief of the Army Staff from December 31, 2016 to December 31, 2019. [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] On 8 December 2021, his helicopter crashed at the age of 63 and in this accident his died.
In January 1979, got the first appointment in the army in Mizoram.
During his deployment in NEFA area, he led the battalion.
He also led the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Congo.
He took over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff on 01 September 2016. [5]
Army Chief's post as on 31 December 2021 On 8 December 2021, near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu, an Indian Air Force helicopter (Mi-17VH helicopter) crashed with Defense Chief General Bipin Rawat. All fourteen people involved in the accident were confirmed dead. In view of this situation, an inquiry was ordered by the Air Force. The helicopter took off from Sulur IAF station in Coimbatore and was on its way to Wellington Military Officers Academy carrying the Defense Chief.
