Having trouble finding a new drive clutch for your 1984*-1996 gas Club Car DS? Have no fear! Club Car drive clutches are non-directional. You can easily use the drive clutch for a 1997-up Club Car! You just have to swap the pulley for the starter/generator belt from your old clutch to your new clutch**. In this video I swap in a 1997-up drive clutch into my 1990 Club Car DS.

*1984-1987 Club Cars used a different style drive clutch than the ones pictured in this video. It was called a Salsbury clutch. The newer clutches in the video will still easily fit on the 1984-1987 motors, but you will need to drill new mounting holes (for the three mounting bolts) into the original s/g pulley from the Salsbury clutch in order to get it to work. If you have no smaller pulley to swap onto the new clutch, the Club Car part number for the smaller v-belt pulley is 1012824. Finding one for sale one the Web can be spotty, but there are a few out there. One guy on our Internet forum found a pulley that was the same diameter and just drilled it out so it would work.

**There is one minor operational difference between the 1988-1996 drive clutches and the 1997-up drive clutches and it is the positioning of the little metal clips that are located under each of the three clutch buttons. The metal clips are the same throughout all model years but are mounted in opposite ways depending on motor rotation.
