I had a very blessed childhood growing up in the middle of corn and bean fields in a small little town in Illinois, the Prairie state. We used to say if you blinked while driving through it you would miss it. I think the population was around 500 when I was a child. We played outside until the streetlights came on or our parents called us for supper. We drank out of a water hose, played in mud puddles and made mud pies. Yep, just like those posts you read. Never locked our doors. Everybody knew everybody. We knew how to respect others and loved our neighbors.
Christmas was such a special time in that little town. Everyone decorated their homes with lights and of course the snow! Oh how I miss the snow on Christmas! But I have memories of snow storms I would rather not repeat.
My mom loved Christmas and it's music. From Silent Night to Perry Como's Christmas songs. Many others in there also. I have so many memories of decorating our tree listening to Bing Crosby's Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Perry Como's Silver Bells.
Such wonderful memories that I promise you I appreciate more now than back then. It's those memories that have flooded my mind more this year than any other. I guess because of the way our world has so drastically changed. It's a comfort zone I am enjoying reliving in my mind.
I know and thank our heavenly Father for those memories, because I know how blessed I was. Not everyone had that and it saddens my heart to think of that.
I know all the statements people are making about Christmas but I love it. I love my memories of raising my children to make number 1 Christ's birth. Making Happy Birthday Jesus posters to reading the story of His birth on Christmas Eve. The devil may be laying claims to Christmas but just like everything else. The Lord turns around everything for our good and His glory. Through His believers He used them to make Christmas a beautiful time and season that brings everyone's focus on the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and all the wonder and amazement that comes with it. The Miracle Birth of a Savior that came to us and saved us so that we can have eternal life with Him. It just doesn't get any better then that.
So I will continue to sing the songs from my childhood that just seem to put all my memories into a place that might just touch someone's heart and make them smile today.
God bless you all, I love you and your always in my prayers
Love, Cecilia
