Penn State Faculty Senate - Covid & Hostile Workplace
In this clip of the 11/30/21 Penn State Faculty Senate meeting, a member informs the faculty senate about concerns that have been brought to his attention of a strong one-sided narrative resulting in an intolerant climate and hostile environment where students are coerced to violate their conscience. He addresses impact such as self-censorship, students facing censure, and loss of professional contact. He points out that esteemed hallmarks of academia such as open dialog, representation of multiple viewpoints are missing and vital for this issue.
He asks if the administration can acknowledge that there is hostility in the one-sided narrative, or that there are subject-matter experts who have reached evidence-based conclusions counter to those that support University policies.
Finally, the remarks are concluded with a request of the faculty senate to convene a "COVID Climate and Diversity Committee" to 1) better understand the counter-narratives and 2) understand the potential detrimental impact of their policies on many faculty, staff, and students. Tune in to see the response to this series of questions.
