Episode 59: House Painting Timelapse

Bryce and Angel work to paint their own house. Keep in mind this is not your standard 8’ foot ceiling house. The house was built in 1882 or thereabouts and it is quite tall. It is all brick with very thick walls. The outside now has a stucco with 2” foam insulation. What does this mean? It means for very high peaks to reach, and because of the stucco, can be difficult to get solid coverage. Bryce has a ladder that will reach but it can be unwieldy and very heavy.

In July they started off renting the lift from Paulding’s ACE Hardware and got a bunch of the caulking done that needed completed before painting. In the afternoon the painting started and the small hand sprayer - Wagner - that was purchased for this project - just could not do the job. It would clog easily, spatter, difficult to clean, and just didn’t do a great job. Very frustrating! Didn’t get much done like they thought they would. The house was left half painted until they could get to it again. The RK25 did a great job of maneuvering the lift through the tight areas. A 3 point receiver hitch was used on the back and was easy to just lift the ball up under the hitch and latch in. Too bad all ball and hitches can’t do that!

Picking up later, Bryce talks to Adam and he had a bigger sprayer that could run right from the buckets of paint. We started with that again in October and it worked much better. You might recall that Bryce made a man lift that can attach to the front of the RK 25 tractor. That worked out very well and allowed most of the lower painting to get done without renting the lift. Next time they will have to rent the lift and probably get a taller one to get into some of the tight areas up up top on the east side.
