Tausende von Demonstranten blockierten am Samstag Hauptstraßen und Brücken im Zentrum Belgrads, um gegen eine geplante Lithiummine und zwei damit verbundene neue Gesetze zu protestieren. Die Aktivisten trugen Transparente mit Slogans wie "Stoppt den Abbau von Lithium" und skandierten regierungsfeindliche Parolen, während sie den Verkehr auf der Hauptstraße, die durch die serbische Hauptstadt führt, blockierten. Zur gleichen Zeit fanden ähnliche Veranstaltungen in anderen Städten Serbiens statt, unter anderem in Nis und Novi Sad. Anlass für die Empörung sind die Pläne des Bergbauunternehmens Rio Tinto, im fruchtbaren Jadar-Tal des Landes Lithium abzubauen. Die betroffenen Anwohner weigerten sich, ihr Land zu verkaufen, wurden jedoch durch eine neue Gesetzgebung umgangen, die den obligatorischen Erwerb von Privatland durch den Staat innerhalb von acht Tagen ermöglicht.

Thousands of protesters blocked main roads and bridges in central Belgrade on Saturday, in protest over a planned lithium mine and two connected new laws. Activists carried banners with slogans such as "Stop digging lithium," and chanted anti-government slogans, while blocking traffic on the main road that goes through the Serbian capital. At the same time, similar events happened in cities across Serbia, amongst them Nis and Novi Sad. The outrage comes as mining company Rio Tinto plans to extract lithium in the country's the fertile Jadar Valley. Affected residents refused to sell their land, however were bypassed by new legislation that enables mandatory acquisition of private land by the state within eight days.

Miles de manifestantes bloquearon el sábado las principales carreteras y puentes del centro de Belgrado, en protesta por un proyecto de mina de litio y dos nuevas leyes relacionadas. Los activistas llevaban pancartas con lemas como "Dejad de excavar litio" y coreaban consignas antigubernamentales, mientras bloqueaban el tráfico en la carretera principal que atraviesa la capital serbia. Al mismo tiempo, se produjeron actos similares en ciudades de toda Serbia, entre ellas Nis y Novi Sad. La indignación se produce cuando la empresa minera Rio Tinto planea extraer litio en el fértil valle de Jadar.
