the shooting unfolded
McCabe said calls for an active shooter came in around 12:51 p.m. ET. Oxford is about 45 miles north of Detroit.
"We received over 100 911 calls to our dispatch center," McCabe said.

The deputy who is assigned to Oxford High School and another deputy took the suspect into custody, McCabe said.
A handgun was recovered from the suspect, McCabe said. Authorities recovered multiple shell casings in the school and believe around 15-20 shots were fired. There is no indication the suspect was wearing body armor, McCabe said.
"At this point in time, we believe he acted alone," McCabe said. He said that authorities are aware of how the suspect allegedly got the gun into the school, but declined to divulge those details.

All evacuated students were relocated to a nearby store for reunification with relatives. About 25 agencies and close to 60 ambulances responded, according to John Lyman, public information officer for the Rochester Hills Fire Department.
The families of the victims have been notified. It is not currently known whether the three students killed were targeted, McCabe said.
"We've done three sweeps of the high school to make sure there's no other victims," he said. "We don't have a motive at this point in time. We are still investigating that."

President Joe Biden addressed the shooting Tuesday while in Minnesota, saying, "My heart goes out to the families enduring the unimaginable grief of losing a loved one."
"You've gotta know that that whole community has to be in a state of shock right now," Biden said.

The #ColumbineHighSchoolmassacre was a school shooting and failed bombing that occurred on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School in Columbine, Colorado, United States.[a] The perpetrators, twelfth grade (senior) students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, murdered 12 students and one teacher. Ten students were killed in the school library, where the pair subsequently committed suicide. Twenty-one additional people were injured by gunshots, and gunfire was also exchanged with the police. Another three people were injured trying to escape. At the time, it was the deadliest high school shooting in U.S. history.[b] The crime has inspired several copycats, including many deadlier shootings across the world,[c] and "Columbine" has become a byword for school shootings.

In addition to the shootings, Harris and Klebold planted several homemade bombs. Two of these were placed in the cafeteria, powerful enough to kill or seriously injure all people within the area, although they failed to detonate. Their cars in the parking lots were made into bombs which also failed to detonate, and at another location away from the school, two bombs were set up as diversions, only one of which partially detonated. The motive remains unclear, but they had planned for around a year, hoping to massacre the most victims in U.S. history, which then meant exceeding the death toll of the Oklahoma City bombing. USA Today said the attack was "planned as a grand, if badly implemented, terrorist bombing."[10]
