🌸【History of SANTOKU-BUKURO】🌸
・ SANTOKU-BUKURO means ‘3 benefit pouches’ in Japanese language.

・ It’s a handy pouch invented in Japan’s Edo period (1603-1868). Japanese people in Edo era used to put tissues, cigarettes, coins and such in the SANTOKU-BUKURO (spelled ‘三徳袋’ in Japanese character) before tucking it into their kimono sleeve.

🌸【About SAKIORI weaving technique】🌸
・ Made with SAKIORI handwoven cloth (Cotton yarn, Linen yarn, Cotton fabric, Linen
fabric).

・ The Japanese word SAKIORI comes from “SAKI,” which means to tear or rip up, and “ORI,” which means weave. “SAKI” relates to preparing the fabric by stripping it into pieces and “ORI” refers to weaving it together.

・ Recycling such old fabric remnants into SAKIORI weavings follows the Japanese indispensable concept of ‘MOTTAINAI’ which respects precious cloth by reuse.

🌸【Vintage KIMONO lining】🌸
・Partially stained old kimonos are considered unwearable, but most of the fabric is still clean.
・Using partially soiled kimonos, I have up-cycled vintage fabric for the lining of “SANTOKU-BUKURO” pouches.

🌈【A6サイズ: 虹織りアートの三徳袋】🌈

【三徳袋について】
・ この小物ポーチのカタチは、『三徳袋』と呼ばれます。江戸時代に考案されました。江戸時代の伝統的な『三徳袋』のカタチを、今回は『虹織り生地』で再現してみました。

・ A6サイズの三徳袋は、『裂織り』という技法で作りました。お洋服を縫った後に残る中途半端なサイズのハギレ布などを１cm幅に裂いて、ヨコ糸として折り込みました。

・ 『裂織り』は布が貴重だった頃の、昔の日本人の知恵が詰まっています。着物生地がボロボロになっても、すぐに捨てたりしませんでした。１cm幅に裂いてヨコ糸として生地を織り直し、リサイクルしました。日本人は『もったいない』精神で、一枚の布も大事に使ったのですね。

🌸【裏地は古い着物をリユース】🌸
・ 三徳袋の裏地に使った布地は、日本の古い着物です。生地を破かないように丁寧にほどいた着物を、お洗濯をしてリユースしました。
