Some animals and plants attach to the turtle's carapace such as barnacles, algae and small animals commonly called Epibionts. Animals and plants are also food for fish and shrimp. Several types of fish and shrimp form a 'washing station' for turtles, so turtles visit this place periodically to 'wash' the epibiont attached to the carapace. This is a form of mutual benefit or mutualism between turtles, fish and shrimp.
