Here’s how it works. Freerice is a trivia and knowledge game you can play in your browser or using an iPhone or Android app. For every correct answer, an ad appears on your screen. The revenue earned from these ad impressions is counted as grains of rice donated to the United Nations World Food Programme. The actual monetary payout can vary, but each question is roughly equal to 10 grains of rice.

Freerice has 26 different games you can play, broken up into categories including English, geography, humanities, math, language learning and science. Choose a category and questions will appear. If the questions are too easy for you, click Difficulty level in the left-hand menu. Choose from easiest, easier, normal, hard and hardest (for you trivia pros).

The longer you spend playing Freerice, the more money the World Food Programme receives for projects around the world. Freerice doesn’t keep any of the profits, and 93.5% of every payment received by the World Food Programme goes to helping kids and their families A game Created by John Breen.
