This is the moment a jogger tells a family that their house is on fire through their doorbell - before running inside to save their pets.

Courtney Polito, 35, was in the next town over when a runner, Paul, noticed smoke coming from their garage and rang their Ring doorbell.

Knowing her four pets were indoors, Courtney frantically instructed Paul on how to enter the house and he dashed inside to save them.

The mum-of-two said: "He is a great man and we are so, so grateful for him and his quick actions.

"There are still amazing, kind people in this world and it only takes one person to change someone's life."

Courtney was out picking up her seven-year-old Liam, while her husband Tony, 37 was at a car show with other son Brody, ten, on November 6.

At about 9:45am she received a notification from her Ring doorbell on her phone.

She said: "I noticed that all of my cameras were notifying me that someone was at our house.

"When he rang the door bell I immediately answered, which I usually do not do when I'm not home."

A passing jogger was trying to see if the family were inside their home, as he'd noticed smoke billowing from their garage.

Captured on the doorbell camera, he said 'there's smoke coming out of the top of your house'.

Coding Educator Courtney was terrified, thinking of her two dogs, cat and rabbit that were locked inside the home.

"I immediately wanted him to save my animals," she said.

She gave Paul the passcode to their home and without hesitation he ran in, not knowing how far the fire had spread or where it had started.

As they were only ten minutes away, the Politos rang for the fire brigade en route and met them when they got back to Scotts Valley, California, USA.

Fortunately the blaze was already put out as it had been contained to the garage.
