Van VS Motorcycle, Motorcyclist Flown, LIVINGSTON, November 29, 2021 - At approximately 5:30 pm on November 29, 2021, a white 2004 GMC full size van, driven by Keith Hyatt, 60, of Trinity, was south-bound on FM-350 North. Hyatt attempted a left turn into a private driveway (just north of Horace Bonds Road), when his van struck a 2003 Yamaha Road Star motorcycle, driven by James Pierson, 58, of Livingston. Pierson was traveling behind Hyatt's van when he decided to pass Hyatt. As Pierson was close to making the pass, Hyatt made his turn as the front end of Hyatt's van impacted Pierson's motorcycle. Pierson was pushed off the pavement and was ejected from his motorcycle (Pierson was not wearing a helmet). Hyatt pulled to the right shoulder. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Deputies Adrian Ontiveros and Roper Ellison with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Trooper Nick Hatton with the Texas Highway Patrol. Pierson was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with head injuries and other possible injuries. A medical helicopter landed at CHI and flew Pierson to Houston. Hyatt was physically okay. Traffic on 350 North was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Citations are likely pending, but the accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol. Pierson's motorcycle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston. Hyatt's van was driven from the scene.
