The Myth Of American Democracy | A Republic If You Can Keep It

So often we as Americans are told that our country is a democracy, and that we should strive to democratize further, but is America really a democracy? The answer to that is an outright no. The United States was founded as a constitutional republic based in law, reciprocity between citizen and state, and noble leadership. Today the United States has undergone several periods of democratization which have eroded the republic's original values, and we now stand at risk of falling into what our founders once referred to as the "tyranny of the many", but the "tyranny of the few" is not the answer either. The United States must learn from its past to promote harmonious cooperation between the elites and masses who share the goal of saving America from collapse, and setting it back on course for prosperity for all.
