Isaiah Meanderings (17): Ch14 - God Will Remove the Oppressor, Bringing Rest from Slavery and Fear

As God releases people from sorrow, fear and slavery; there is a taunting of the King of Babylon who has oppressed them. The King is nameless - he is not to be honored. His life will end in death, buried as one of no significance - in a nameless grave. The king is insolent - he has no fear of the Lord. He has used violence to get what he wants, destroying other nations and the people for whom he is supposed to lead and care. God responds to this unrestrained tyranny by bringing he and his legacy to an end. God sees the destruction and defies it - even as the king had thought himself to be greater than all others. His arrogance will discover otherwise as the people are saved.
