"Ashley X" became the focus of a nationwide debate in the mid-2000's when she underwent a series of procedures that some deemed unethical, to assist her and her caregivers in treating her. We will review the case, what those treatments were, and the ethics involved in treating adults and children with severe cognitive disabilities. We will also have the pleasure of a presentation & Q&A from one of the original authors of the controversial paper, which was recorded only a few years ago, giving a unique insight into the entire situation and how it has evolved over the last decade and a half.
