Thinking Thru Scripture Ep 6: Sarah (Part 2) When Your Call is Lost on the Other. No Sarah No Israel

Continuing to look at how scripture frames Sarah, we see God growing clearer in His call upon her life. Abraham does not see it. Ishmael seems a better bet. But Abraham and Sarah's concerns continue to echo one another. The text is advocating for value and worth that is not yet a part of the culture's understanding. The juxtaposition of stories reveals God's faithfulness in light of a basic missed-understanding on Abraham's behalf as to the significance of marriage and that the two are mutually called together. Sarah's significance as the mother of Israel is lost on Abraham - however, God her redeemer stands on her behalf in the midst of this deep-seated confusion. Are you my sister or are you my wife? And what exactly is the difference? Everything, says the text. Everything. No Sarah, No Israel.
