How to clean a gas heater and light the pilot light

It is important to clean your gas heater before lighting it for the season. Failure to clean your heater can result in a bad smell coming from it. Once everything is cleaned properly you can then light the pilot light and test to see if everything is working properly.

The first thing I do is to take a vacuum to remove as much dust and debris as possible. Make sure to vacuum around the pilot light nozzle also. Check to see that none of the ports are blocked with debris. Use a can of compressed air to help blow the dust out of the unit. Repeat these steps until the unit is completely clean.

The more cleaner the unit is the better it will burn and it will not have the bad smells that develop because of it being dirty.
