Spanish 101 - Learn Descriptive Adjectives in Spanish for Beginners - Spanish With Profe
In this video you will learn Descriptive Adjectives in Spanish.
Spanish adjectives agree both in number (s/pl) and in gender (m/f)
Keep in mind that there are some adjectives that are neutral: such as those ending in the letter "e" , "l" and "z"
e.g. inteligente (intelligent)
Él es inteligente (He is intelligent)
Ella es inteligente (She is intelligent)
Ellos son inteligentes (They are intelligent.)
e.g feliz (happy)
Ella es feliz (She is happy.)
Él es feliz (He is happy.)
Ellos son felices (They are happy)
Remember that the ending "o" will denote that the adjective is masculine
While the ending in "a" will denote that the adjective is feminine
To make an adjective plural remember the following:
If it ends in a vowel (a, e, i, o, u) add an "s"
e.g. argentino + s = argentinos (a person or people from Argentina)
if it ends in a consonant (n, s, r, etc) add "es"
e.g trabajador + es= trabajadores (hard-working)
Nationalities in Spanish are written in lower case
canadiense (Canadian)
You will notice that in some cases some adjectives carry a written tilde in their singular form but not in the plural form.
e.g alemán + es= alemanes (a German person vs German people)
The reason for this change is based on the stress syllable. There will be another video coming up in which I will tell you about rules of pronunciation and tildes.
In Spanish adjectives come after the noun they are modifying.
I have a red car. Yo tengo un carro rojo.
My dress is green. Mi vestido es verde.
