The Old Rugged Cross

The video was created for use in our church during a time we did not have a musician.

When I was a little girl my family did a nursing home ministry. Nursing homes in the early 80's were not always nice places to be. There was one woman who would come every Sunday. She had lost one of her legs and was in a wheelchair, she had ulcers of various degrees, and a pouch of urine sloshing beneath her. What I didn't know then was that she was loosing the battle with diabetes and kidney disease. My eight year old nose would turn up at the sick smell of acid and rancor. But she always had a kind smile and she always asked for us to sing this song. It wasn't until I was older that I realized exactly what this song meant to her.
