Wat Paknam was established in 1610, during the Ayutthaya period, and received support from Thai kings until the late nineteenth century. Wat Paknam mean lock in the canal due to its location. It’s been know but other names over it’s 400 year history but this is the most common name it’s referred to now. It’s located on the opposite side of the Chaopraya river from Bangkok in Tonburi. The most recent addition to the temple is a 16 million US dollar Buddha statue that stands 69 meters high or about 20 stories. It’s the tallest Buddha statue in Bangkok and worth a visit.
