Skipper's Chicks are About to Fly the Coop!

The chicks are getting so big that next week they will have to go outdoors. We built a chicken run in the 4-bay workshop because it has electric for their heaters since they are still too young. The coop isn't heated. Because of the wood in it, I presume it was built around 1880 like the old house here, and they covered it with some sheet metal. We'll have to tarp over the doors and insulate the eaves to prevent drafts. Then in Spring we can move it to the coop as their outside run. Skipper thought that some of her babies would be a pound. Were they? I had fun weighing the chicks this morning! Some of them were trying to fly.

In case you're wondering, Skipper is terrified of the chicks and Cody has such a high prey drive he wants to charge them. He is a true herder. Too bad we didn't have him when we went to that herding school while we were in Florida. I'll leave a link below. It's called Draxen Farms. He would have done great!
