Botswana & the AfCFTA | Protectionism Run Amok

African elites love to promote the AfCFTA, falsely implying it will be a game changer. It can be a game changer as afar as intra-Africa is concerned,. but, this will never occur so long as state flaunt free trade with protectionist measures designed to keep out others.

Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe are all guilty of rampant protectionism. In Zimbabwe's case, their racist Indiginization Law evaporated foreign direct investment and caused untold misery for millions of Zimbabweans. Much the same will come of South Africa's foolish Private Security Industry Regulation Amendment and Gaborone's implementation of the Industrial Development Act of 2019 and its Regulations of 2020.
