Rollover Accident Turns Fatal, GOODRICH, November 16, 2021 - At approximately 2:55 pm November 16, 2021, the driver of a red 2010 Chevy Cobalt was east-bound on FM-1988 West and entered a curve too fast (just west of Pete Garrett Road) and left the pavement to the left. The vehicle rolled, slammed into and knocked down a utility pole and continued to the edge of the woodline where it came to rest on its passenger's side. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Goodrich and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments, Deputy Ethan Placker with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Constable Pct. 1 Marcello Rosario, and Troopers Cotye Lowrie, Johnny Wilkerson, and Sergeant Pierce with the Texas Highway Patrol. EMS personnel immediately began CPR on the driver, Thomas Carranza, 57, of Livingston. Carranza was rushed by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Justice of the Peace, Sara Rasberry performed an inquest. All traffic on 1988 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. A crew from Sam Houston Electric Cooperative arrived to replace the downed utility pole. Carranza's vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
