Recently, one of our long-time members went to be with the Lord. Just as Paul described his own life, Harvey finished his race, and kept the faith. He has a family whose love for Christ is a direct result of he and his wife's faithful examples. Through the upcoming days and weeks, friends and family will grieve his loss, but we can also rejoice in a life well-spent—a life of Gospel ministry and kingdom focus.
We have a church with many men and women like Paul—Faithful Christ-followers who have spent their lives proclaiming the Gospel. Many are retired, but still passing along their insights and experiences to the next generation of gospel proclaimers.
In this passage, Paul is giving some of his last words of encouragement and exhortation to his son in the faith. Paul gives Timothy an emphatic challenge as Timothy is progressing in the ministry. As we break down this passage, we will examine Paul’s Challenge, the Reason for the challenge, Several Examples, and finally, we will explore the Means by which Christians can live up to the challenge.
