The Transforming Power of the Gospel--2 Peter 2:17-22 "The False Freedom of Waterless Springs"

This is our third time diving into the dangers of false teachers. Peter warns of their existence and tells us they are on the doomed path of Balaam. Today, Peter is going to finish this section of his letter by showing Christ-followers that there is no hope in following their teaching.
Verse 19 says “They promise freedom.” This is alluring to us. We crave freedom. Our sin nature wants to rule. We want no authority but our own, and this is where false teachers take advantage.
We must recognize that any “freedom” that is opposed to God’s Word is a false freedom. Throwing off God’s commands doesn’t bring liberty, it brings slavery—bondage to our own wicked desires. In our time today, we are going to examine the false teachers’ false freedom.
