The latest news about weather events and disasters. The climate is changing rapidly, which inevitably leads to global warming.

For 6 weeks now, the volcano Cumbre Vieja has been erupting in the Canary Islands. Over the past day, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 was recorded on the island of La Palma. This is the strongest earthquake in the vicinity of the volcano during the eruption. The tremors were felt not only on La Palma, but also on the neighboring island of La Gomera. In total, 145 earthquakes occurred in a day.
The plume of smoke rises 4.5 km (15,000 ft) before being dispersed by the wind. Lava ejections from the volcano's mouth reach 600 m (1968 ft) in height. Many nearby settlements, as well as the observatory located on the mountain at 2,400 m (7,800 ft) above sea level, were covered in a thick layer of ash.
According to the European Union satellite service, the rivers of lava flowing into the Atlantic Ocean covered 970 hectares (2,400 acres).
In addition, the lava destroyed over 2,000 buildings and forced the evacuation of over 7,000 people.
Experts agree that predicting when the eruption will stop is extremely difficult.
