Divided Mind

A child put into organized sports has a divided mind. In my opinion, the young children don't have fun playing organized youth sports. It's not where they want to be, but they also want to please their parents, so they go through the motions of trying to play the sport their parents put them in. Organized sports disrupts a young child's natural desire for authentic play.
When a child is on the playing field, court or ice rink, their attention is divided among many things. They don't want to be embarrassed, they try to listen to all of the commands they are getting from parents, others in the stands, coaches, other players, all the while not wanting to be there. Parents though think it all makes so much sense to put their often young children in such a situation. It all looks so normal, parents driving their young kids to organized sports events. They seem to get self worth from the whole scene. They think it brings a sense of normalcy to their lives. Again, in my opinion, organized sports is harmful for young kids because it disrupts their natural desire for play. That disruption can harm them in later life because they lose touch with their true self, because they are essentially told that their authentic desire for play is not real and should even be ignored.
