Building a Squirrel Picnic Table

Not everything about working from home during the COVID19 quarantine fiasco has been bad. We’ve definitely had more time to befriend the neighborhood critters. This adorable Eastern Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger), affectionately named Squir’ly, made friends with my wife Erin, after many servings of almonds were left for her on our driveway. I’m not sure why Squir’ly took to me so quickly, as I’m fairly large and scary looking, but maybe my beard brings her the same comfort she feels when she beds down in her nest. I’ll be honest, I’m quite taken with her and she brings a smile to face whenever I see her scurrying along our property. I like her so much; I felt the need to offer up something other than treats in exchange for all the smiles she brings when she shows her bright little face. So, I looked for some ideas for squirrel feeders online and there were numerous varieties being sold on Ebay, Etsy and Amazon. This design is not my own. I cannot take credit for this Squirrel Picnic Table, but since I made this from scrap in the garage it gets An Eric Coleman Original stamp. It was fun to build and I hope Squir’ly likes it. She seems too. Maybe it’s more the food left on the table than the table itself.
