This is the eighth of a series of short videos on Low dose Medicine and in particular Cytokines. This video introduces the cytokine Interleukin 7.
IL 7 stimulates the hematopoietic stem cells into lymphoid progenitor cells and the proliferation of all cells in the lymphoid lineage such as B cells, T cells and NK cells and in particular it stimulates the antitumoral action of cytotoxic T lymphocytes.
Since it acts as a lymphocytes growth factor it is of particular importance for B and T cell survival and development.
IL7 is critical for immune homeostasis and it could also be beneficial in improving immune recovery after stem cell transplant.
